Feature Focus: Trips
Every day across Australia, trailers are loaded, vehicles inspected and made ready, and millions of tonnes of freight begin their respective journeys. For freight companies that use our ConNote software, all of the ground-work, administration, and haulage is brought together through an interconnected, real-time system which tracks every trailer, driver, and consignment from departure to arrival.
In ConNote, a trip begins well before the rubber hits the road. As depot staff load freight on to trailers, scanning the freight using the mobile app as they go, the system builds a live picture of exactly what’s on board. Once the last pallet has been strapped down and the load plan handed to the operations team, the system is primed with all the information they need to plan routes.
To create the trip in the system, operations can choose one ore more trailers, determine the route, and let the system automatically generate a manifest from the information provided. ConNote will also ensure that the billing information is correct – if a consignment is not priced correctly, or is missing a chargeable party, the system will notify the staff so they can correct or fill in the missing data.
Once the trip has been planned, a driver can be assigned. The trip appears on their mobile app, displaying the trailers, vehicle, and route. Before the trip can be marked as departed, any pre-start requirements must be fulfilled – such as compliance checklists, recording dollies used to connect trailers, and fit-for-duty forms. ConNote becomes the source of truth for both driver and depot, ensuring a digital record of compliance.
As drivers depart or arrive each leg of the trip, they update the trip directly through the app. Combined with GPS tracking, this provides operations with a live insights into the trip status and schedule. Any freight for the destination of each leg is scanned off, marking it as arrived at the depot and automatically creating delivery records for the final stage of the transport process.
With every consignment tracked from start to finish, there’s no uncertainty about what should be there, what has arrived, or what is missing.
From the first consignment scanned to the final offload, the trips workflow in ConNote provides a stable process and reliable documentation for the staff and equipment that make line-haul freight possible. Depot staff, drivers, and operations teams all work within the same information ecosystem.
The result is a workflow which provides excellent visibility into the transport process, while eliminating duplicated paperwork and saving time and operating costs – and allowing our clients to multiply their efficiency and grow their businesses.
