Personnel Management
When we launched our mobile app for ConNote in 2018, our goal was to ensure truck drivers had up-to-date, accurate information about the jobs they were assigned. Over the years as the list of transport industry-specific features grew, the need for personnel management features became more and more apparent. In 2024, we added the first of these: a dynamic form builder and reporting tool which allows organisations to create custom forms tailored to their specific requirements. The question we are facing now is: what’s next?
Today, we offer mobile solutions for several of our software packages, all built on the same core features. Managing staff is a challenge faced by all businesses – onboarding, skill training and development, compliance with industry and government regulations, and time tracking are just a few of the plates that must be kept spinning to run a business. In this article, we’ll explore some of these challenges from the perspective of identifying future solutions to integrate into our apps.
Onboarding
Onboarding is a critical process, but can be complicated and disjointed. Delays in completing and processing the necessary paperwork are costly. By using digital forms, electronic documents, and having a centralised place for training materials and policies, the process can be made as simple as a checklist. Automated actions can be setup for when onboarding is complete, allowing the system to expedite tasks such as IT access. Completed documents can be stored for archival and compliance, and retrieved as necessary.
Skill Development & Training
Compliance with local government and industry regulations may require training and certifications to be kept up to date. Identifying skill gaps, coordinating training schedules, and ensuring mandatory participation all required extra time and effort. By recording skills and certifications digitally, employees requiring additional training or certification renewal can be easily identified. Integration with training organisations can further streamline the process, allowing an accurate overview of compliance at all times.
Timekeeping
Tracking time manually or on a spreadsheet can be a time-intensive process, prone to errors including time theft and fraud. Digital timekeeping can provide exact work hours, ensure that breaks are provided, and that overtime is accurately detected. Using a mobile device for timekeeping also allows clock-in/clock-out events to be verified by GPS. Direct integration with payroll software (such as our ATO compliant single-touch payroll solution!) further cuts administrative overhead, saving the business time and money in more ways than one.
By focusing on features that provide tangible benefits to a wide range of industries, we hope to equip our clients to build stronger, more efficient organisations. What features would your organisation use most – or is there something we missed? Let us know your thoughts!
